And we’re off! The 1st Annual October Spookapalooza is now accepting entries for stories within the theme of UF historicals! We’ll be having 3 winners but all who enter are invited to read their work at the celebration on Oct 31st at Bookstacks. Enter if you dare! Hope to see some of your works!

1st Annual October Spookapalooza Writing Competition!
(Sponsored by June Stormcrow & Rae’s Novel Writing Class)

This year we’re kicking off with a competition to bring in the most spooktacular time of the year!

We want your best urban fantasy stories featuring supernatural creatures throughout the 20th century from the 1900s to 1980s. Vampires in the Industrial age of technology replacing the natural world, werewolves in the disco dancing era of bell bottoms, afros and disco clubs. The roaring 20s, the noirish 30s and 40s with sleek suits, fast talking broads and smooth joes. All supes are fair game from vampires, werewolves, faeries, ghosts and more.

Stories can be betwen 1,000 – 5,000 words.

Prizes will include:

  • 1st L$2,000
  • 2nd L$ 1000
  • 3rd L$ 500

Winners will be announced at the party at Bookstacks library on October 31st at 5pm SLT.

Contest is open from October 1st – 23rd so get those stories hopping!

*Although we’ll have winners, all entrants are invited to read their short stories aloud during the celebration on Sunday, October 31st.

To enter: Send your story in a notecard and pop it over in the mailbox at Rae’s cottage on the refreshment table.
