Nominate a Book for an Upcoming Book Discussion

03 Sep

Simeon and I are plotting and planning our events for the next few months, and we have talked about expanding the nature and range of our book discussions. So, we’d like to invite you to suggest a book for an upcoming discussion. Join us on Sunday at 2 p.m. slt/pdt in the Pub to nominate a book or two for our list.

May I start a bit early on the suggestions? I don’t know if these books have been discussed before, but you may want to think about:

The Shack–William Paul Young. This is an excellent short novel about a man who claims to have encountered God in a shack where his young daughter was murdered.

    The Time Traveler’s Wife–Audrey Niffenegger

The Known World–Edward P. Jones. This novel explores the world of mid-nineteenth slavery in a fictional northern Virginia county. It reads more like a great 18th-century adventure than a post-modern tale of slavery.

Don Quixote–Miguel de Cervantes. After reading this masterpiece for the first time, I understand why many critics call it the novel of novels. I would definitely recommend Edith Grossman’s recent (2003?) translation.

Thanks for the recommendations – we’ll be sure to include them. Nice range, btw.
