Bookstacks Events – July 25-26

25 Jul

Bookstacks is hosting a couple of new events this weekend, and we have an Off the Shelf taping with Kat Klaybourne (Kat Alderson from Third Life) and Widget Whiteberry (Virtually Speaking).

Saturday

Noon – Book Trivia: Women on Top
Simeon came up with this week’s theme – it is obvious by the title: Women on Top.  Come along to Saturday’s quiz and see just what questions have been put together to make Simeon’s fantasy into a Book Trivia Quiz.  Use your google skills and if you come out on top, 500L is yours.  If you win the contest for best themed avatar, you can win 500L for that as well.
Location: Bookstacks Pub (slurl)

2:00 – Science Fiction Saturdays
Discuss science fiction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Got something to say about the book you’re reading? Share your insights with us! You’re welcome to come and just listen too! We’ll happily discuss sci fi books, television and movies … but mostly books! If you think you might come along, bring some thoughts on the last science fiction you read, what you’re reading now, and what you want to read next!
Location: Bookstacks Pub (slurl)

4:00 p.m. – Non-Fiction Book Discussion: The Purity Myth
Bookstacks and Virtually Speaking are co-hosting a discussion of Jessica Valenti’s newest book, The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession with Virginity Is Hurting Young Women, on Saturday, July 25 at 4:00 p.m. SLT/PDT.
Location: Virtually Speaking (slurl)

Sunday

11:00 a.m. – Book Lovers’ Sunday Social
A regular, informal gathering of book lovers to discuss what they are reading, watching, and experience in Second Life and First Life. We meet at a different location each time to explore a new aspect of the grid.
Location: Lafitte’s Old Primsmith Bar (slurl)

1:00 p.m. – Off the Shelf: Kat Klaybourne and Widget Whiteberry
This week’s Off the Shelf interviews Kat Klaybourn, a motivational speaker, exexcutive coach, political campaign consultant, author, rancher, and green energy developer, with a background in network marketing. She is also a force behind the successful Second Life community, Third Life. Additionally, we will chat with Widget Whiteberry about the Virtually Speaking podcast, her experiences with the authors she introduces to Second Life, and the many other projects she is involved in.
