Footlight Confidential with Lauren Weyland – May 19

lauren posterFor the month of May, Footlight Confidential is proud to announce that our guest is the incomparable Lauren Weyland. Lauren performs the stand-up live comedy routine LaurenLive, in which she talks about the peculiarities and quirks of living in SecondLife and FirstLife!

About Lauren Weyland

Lauren was born on Sandbox Island on October 1, 2006 into a relatively modest family. Poorly educated and half naked she was turned out into the world, unable to learn the craft of building or scripting, Lauren instead made watercress sandwiches for those that could build and entertained them with her jokes. Since then she has moved on and performed at dozens of Clubs, Corporate Events, and enumerable  Benefits, written and performed in Theater Plays, and  maintains a regular show night at her club “Lauren’s Place” on Cookie Island.

Lauren has one child Lula. In a quirk of SecondLlife she lives in the sim Old Wives although she has never been married. When not working on comedy Lauren can be found landscaping at her home, making a gourmet meal or just kicking back on her dock reading a good novel. She is also writing an autobiography called, “Beneath The Skin: Second Life Exposed” and ” Laughter – The orgasm you don’t have to worry about if your partner is  finished.”

You can catch Lauren’s performance Tuesdays at 5 pm PT at in Second Life (slurl) or watch it on live stream.

RADIO RIEL RECEIVES FAVORITE SECOND LIFE RADIO STATION NOMINATION
Radio Riel is nominated in the Favorite SL Radio Station category for the 2011 Avi Choice Awards

Radio Riel (http://radioriel.org), an Internet radio station founded and based in the virtual world of Second Life, has received a nomination in the “Favorite SL Radio Station” category for the 2011 Avi Choice Awards, the annual awards that recognize talent in Second Life and that are determined by the votes of SL residents. Voting is active now at http://slchristmasexpo.wordpress.com/avi-choice-awards/ and ends on December 5th at 12pm SLT. All awards will be presented at the Avi Choice Awards show on December 10.

Radio Riel was founded in Second Life on June 1, 2007 in the Independent State of Caledon with the goal of providing a “soundtrack” of Classical and English Folk music to the Neo-Victorian and Steampunk communities. The station has since grown to six separate audio streams, each with its own style and genre of music. Its listeners are residents of Second Life and a continuously growing population of non-Second Life listeners tuning in over the Internet.

The Radio Riel Main stream features a different genre each day in Classical or Folk music that was written prior to 1950. Radio Riel New Toulouse is the music of New Orleans, primarily from the first half of the 20th Century. Radio Riel Steampunk is one of the only Steampunk radio stations in the world, and plays Steampunk, Goth, Darkwave, Dark Cabaret and more. Radio Riel Dieselpunk features Jazz and Pop music from the 1930s and 1940s. Radio Riel Reverie has Early Music, New Age, Downtempo Electronica and more. Finally Radio Riel Volksmusik plays folk music from Central, Northern and Eastern Europe.

Radio Riel also features scheduled programming such as live music shows with commentary (World Music at Madhu’s, Jazz by the Canal, Breakfast in Babbage, Audite Nova, Sekai no Discoteque), audio dramas (Riel Radio Theatre, the ZBS Radio Hour, the Radio Riel Players Present) and the literary podcast “Off the Shelf”.

If you’d like more information, please contact Gabrielle Riel in Second Life or by email at: gabrielle.riel@gmail.com.

Bookstacks Events for the Weekend of May 2-3

Saturday

Noon – Book Trivia: Summertime

For some outside of this virtual world, it is nearly Summer, and that is the theme of Saturday’s Book Trivia at 12 noon.  Summer holiday, summer title or anything that vaguely resembles summer Simeon will ask a question about it.  Bring your towel, sunscreen and flip flops and join both the Trivia and the Costume contest and have your chance to win 500L for each or even both. Googling is a must and it is fast and furious fun trying to be the first with the correct answer.

6:00 p.m. – Karoke

Jandai Writer is taking over Bookstacks on Saturday at 6pm and going to bring to you songs which everyday people in second life have recorded.  To submit one yourself, record your song on www.singsnap.com and submit it the link to Jandai Writer by 5pm on Saturday.  If you don’t want to sing, just come along to dance and listen to the fantastic efforts of the others.

Sunday

11:00 a.m. – Book Discussion: Blogs, Twitter, Social Networks and Other Sources of Book Recommendations

We are all searching for the next “great read,” but were are you looking? Do you have favorite blogs providing great reviews or are you following publishers on Twitter to keep up with new releases? And how do you balance keeping up with all those online resources AND still find time to read? Share your favorite resources and thoughts on managing in the week’s book discussion.

3:00 p.m. Poetry Libre Open Mic

Our friends at Poetry Libre are once again hosting an open mic poetry reading, scheduled to span as many time zones as possible. So grab a poem or just a seat and listen to the work of your fellow SL poets.

Last year, Emz Mazie (author Emerian Rich) and Bearon Schoonhoven (author Mark Eller) sponsored the first Horror Fest, and this year Bookstacks is picking up the reins.
