Delay in Discussion of Three Days to Never

So, Simeon and I were comparing notes on how far we’ve gotten with this month’s book, Three Days to Never. I discovered I was not the only one running a bit behind. So, we’ve decided to delay the discussion for two weeks. Good news for you, if you haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, right?

So, new date – Aug. 29.

Paranormal Book Discussion: Three Days to Never (Tim Powers)

Three Days to Never (Tim Powers)

Three Days to Never (Tim Powers)

This month the paranormal book group is reading Tim Power’s Three Days to Never. We will meet to discuss the book on Saturday, August 15 August 29 at 4:00 p.m. SLT/PDT in the Bookstacks Pub.

Summary
In this bizarrely entertaining metaphysical thriller, 12-year-old Daphne Marrity and her father find themselves embroiled in an almost incomprehensibly complex international conspiracy (with supernatural overtones) when Daphne steals a videotape labeled “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” from her grandmother’s house. Suddenly, the Israeli secret service seems to be after them, and the two are swept into an adventure that involves, among other things, time travel, assassins, and a shrunken talking head.

Non-fiction Book Discussion on Saturday

Once again Bookstacks is partnering up with Virtually Speaking for a non-fiction book discussion. This time we are going to look at the way technology is changing the way people politically active in Taking On the System: Rules for Radical Change in a Digital Era by Markos Moulitsa Zuniga. I watch trends in social media, so I’m interested in Armstrong and Moulitsa’s perspectives of the influence of blogs and other Web 2.0-centric on the current political scene. So far the book has been very readable, and it is giving me a new perspective on contemporary political activism.

The discussion will be held Saturday, August 8 at 4 p.m. SLT/PDT at the Virtually Speaking sim (slurl).
