Bookstacks in the (Virtual) Sky

Alas Zerbino is wonderful writer, and she has done Bookstacks a great honor by profiling us on her blog. I hope we continue to live up to her praise.

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies Postponed until July 11

I’m going to be traveling on June 27, the date I originally planned to discuss Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in the Paranormal book group. The following weekend is the 4th of July, a big holiday for us in the U.S. So, I’m pushing back the discussion until July 11.

If you haven’t started reading the book yet, you still have plenty of time.

A quiet weekend at Bookstacks

Simeon and I are taking the weekend off. We have some projects we want to work on, such as preparations for the Bootleggers Ball on June 20, and we want to check out some of the other events offered around SL. Not to mention it is healthy to have an occasional weekend off.

Serene and Leo will still be hosting the Poetry Libre Open Mic on Sunday, but there will not be an Book Trivia, book discussions or author readings.

Off the Shelf Interviews 3 Romance Authors at 1

Today on Off the Shelf, Simeon and I will be chatting with Melissa Mayhue, Elaine Levine, and Tiffany James. I came across these writers, along with several others, working on book pitches. I was intrigued, and they were so welcoming, I knew I had to invite them onto the show.

We love having an audience for the show, so you are more than welcome to come to the taping. After the show, members of the audience are welcome to ask the writers questions. (slurl to studio)

Work, Romance, and Vampires – This Weekend at Bookstacks

Thinner than Mist coverSaturday

Noon – Book Trivia: Working for a Living

This week’s quiz should be easy – What did Sherlock Holmes do for a living?  What did Jane Eyre do for a living?  Most book characters have to earn their crust somehow, but I don’t think Simeon will make the questions as easy as that.  Come along to the Quiz on Saturday at noon to find out and you could win 500L for the most correct answers.  Dress to suit the theme and you could win 500L for best costume as well.

2:00 p.m. – Author Reading: Mark W. Worthen

Science Fiction and Horror writer Mark W. Worthen (nitewanderer Webwyre in SL) will be reading some of his works at the Bookstacks Pub on Saturday at 2:00. Worthen’s works are featured in several anthologies including Thicker than Water and Thinner than Mist. (nitewanderer started a group in SL titled “Writers of Dark Fantasy and Horror” – seach in-world and join!)

Sunday

11:00 a.m. – Booklover’s Sunday Social

Join us as we ask our standard question – What are you reading?

Soul of a Highlander1:00 p.m. – Off the Shelf: Guests Melissa Mayhue, Elaine Levine, and Tiffany James

Mayhue, Levine, and James are all romance writers. Mayhue writes a popular series featuring Highlanders. Levine’s second book is about to be published. And James’ first book has been accepted for publication. While these three women are at different stages in their careers, they are part of a supportive writing community. Join us as we talk with them about their writing and about how they are using Second Life to further that community.

3:00 p.m. – Poetry Libre Open Mic

Bring your words, your voices, and your ears to this week’s Poetry Libre open mic.
