Bookstacks Weekend Events

Saturday

Noon – Paper Chase: Fashion & Clothing
Color me surprised! Simeon has chosen fashion and clothing as the topic for this month’s Paper Chase. Find the 10 clues scattered about Bookstacks Isle, and you will be able to figure out what that book’s title is.  Touch each page and a clue about the book will be given to you. Once you have touched all 10 pages, you can then tell the book at the podium the answer and the 500L top prize could be yours.

3:00 p.m. – Poetry Libre Open Mic
Join hosts Leonardo Zimring and Serene Bechir in the cozy room behind the fireplace for some of the best poetry in SL. This read has been timed to bring poets together from around the world so we can all benefit from a great diversity of styles and backgrounds.  Everyone is welcome to read and if you do not have a mic or prefer not to read aloud we have several people who would be glad to read for you.

Weekend Events @ Bookstacks

Saturday

Noon – Bookstacks’ Trivia: Science Fiction

Simeon was left to his own devices this week, so he is to blame for his questions.  The subject should be safe: Science Fiction.  Come this Saturday at noon to see what he has come up with, and you may be surprised to find the questions aren’t as hard as I feared.  Winner of the quiz takes home 500L.  Dress to suit the theme, and you could be taking home 500L for best costume.
Location: Bookstacks Pub

2:00 – Science Fiction Saturday

This week Jago is changing things up a bit for Science Fiction Saturday. The group is going to listen to a podcast of Greg van Eekhout’ “Will You Be an Astronaut.” Join in the listening and the discussion that follows.
Location: Bookstacks Pub

Sunday

11:00 a.m. – Book Discussion: Book Series

I’m reading the latest J.D. Robb “In Death” novel, and it has inspired this week’s discussion topic. Are there any book series you are addicted to? What makes a character hold up from book to book? What are the signs a series has gone on too long?
Location: Bookstacks Pub

3:00 p.m. – Poetry Libre Open Mic

Join hosts Leonardo Zimring and Serene Bechir in the cozy room behind the fireplace for some of the best poetry in SL. Milk Wood Showcased

Well  to Harriet’s complete  surprise,  Milk Wood – the Virtual Writers’ Community on Awen – has been featured in the Second Life Showcase.  It’s  great  build and active community  has caught the Linden eye. We at Bookstacks meanwhile  will be basking in reflected  glory. Bookstacks has been  hosting Virtual Writers, Inc. since before they were called  that. And it seems our  decision to partner with this writers’ community, readers having the same affinity for writers that pigs have  for truffles, has been  vindicated  once again.

milkwood

This honor has already  brought  many  new visitors to Bookstacks Isle  as they  cross the bridge to hunt out  the Pub  mentioned in the Linden review. So I expect to see a few new faces at this Saturday’s  Quiz. Hmm…  Judging  from their voices I might have  to throw in some questions about Swedish lit.  Anyone know any Swedish Science Fiction writers? I can only think of two.

Congratulations, Harriet. This honor is very well deserved.
